Biography
Graham Hayter studied music at Exeter University and the Royal
College of Music, London. In 1979 he joined the music publishers Peters Edition
Ltd as Commissioning Editor for the standard repertoire and Promotion/Production Manager for contemporary music. He became a Director of the
company in 1980. Having left Peters Edition in 1999, he established CMPromotions in September 2000.
Throughout
the 1980s and 90s Graham was best known for his world-wide promotion of the
Peters catalogue of contemporary music: composers such as John Cage, George
Crumb, Mauricio Kagel, and Roger Reynolds, and particularly the music
of Brian Ferneyhough and James Dillon whose works have gained widespread
international recognition during the last 20 years. It was during Graham’s
period of responsibility for new music at Peters London that the company
signed exclusive contracts with Dillon, in 1982, and Rebecca Saunders
in 1997.
